Bayford's Green Initiatives
Over the past year Bayford has been actively taking steps to reduce the impact we have on the environment, some of which you may be aware of others you may not.
Achieved so far…
- Barging of circa 80m litres of fuel per annum to fleet. This is equivalent to 5,000 truck journeys per annum (there and back) or 330000 road miles.
- Distribution of Biofuels for over 4 years now. Pioneers in GlobalDiesel (local rapeseed) and Used Cooking Oil.
- All Gulf petrol in south-east is 5% ethanol.
- Gulf is currently working with the DTI to reduce driver emissions.
- Introduction of Bayford CBK; A greener form of Kerosene, which burns cleaner and more efficient. 1.3 million litres sold to date
- Working with fuel researchers to introduce bio-kerosene option.
- Introduction of new IT equipment that saves 15 tonnes of carbon emissions per annum.
- Invoices and letterheads now produced on 100% recycled paper.
- Introduction of customer carbon offset/plant a tree scheme. 300 trees to date, these will be planted at the end of the financial year in local woods.
- Timer switches on all lighting equipment.
- Recycling of all waste paper and print cartridges.
- Online oil ordering system and Signalman encourages customers to buy when a truck is in the customer vicinity.
- Introduction of automatic gear vehicles to reduce gear changes and fuel consumption.
- Defensive driving classes to reduce fuel consumption of staff.
- Supplier of biodegradable lubricants.
- Duplex printing.
- ‘Do not print’ messages on email disclaimer.
- XEROX printers now receive faxes via email.
- Voluntary conservation work initiative to go live tomorrow (15/03/08) with members of the green team working with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on a site near York. The aim is to get encourage staff to get involved in conservation work within their local communities
