When you work in the oil and property sectors like we do you can’t afford to ignore the impact the way you work has on the environment. The good news is that it does give us the opportunity to make meaningful changes.
Initiatives like using barges to move oil, and therefore save significant road tanker journeys, highlight our real attempts to operate responsibly and make a difference wherever possible. Presently Bayford barges approximately 80 million litres of fuel per annum. This is equivalent to 5,000 return truck journeys per year. In addition we are currently involved in a rail project in Halifax aimed at removing a further 1,000 truck journeys from the roads.
We also aim to ensure the products we use and supply are as green as they can be - an aim we like to pass on to our providers too. Through our company Aquasentry, we provide thousands of businesses throughout the UK with pollution prevention measures and spill control solutions to minimise environmental impact. For more than four years we have been distributing, and are pioneers in, GlobalDiesel (local rapeseed) and used cooking oil. In addition all Gulf petrol in the southeast is 5% ethanol.
Our new Clean Burn Kerosene (CBK) is proving popular with home heating oil users. The product is a cleaner burning fuel which increases the efficiency of home heating boilers while also minimising the impact on the environment.
We take an approach of continuous improvement in all areas and we take practical steps to achieve them. Bayford & Co have a company Environmental Representative who reviews our current practices. We also have formalised and agreed an Environmental Policy Statement which we strictly adhere to.
